LDS Church Launches K–12 Private School Pilot in Meetinghouses Sitting Empty During the Week

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a new K–12 private school pilot that will operate inside existing meetinghouses during the week.

The idea reportedly gained traction after a member pointed out that thousands of meetinghouses sit mostly empty Monday through Friday, prompting one administrator to note that “the buildings are white already to harvest.”

Under the pilot, some school responsibilities will be handled through traditional staffing, while others may be assigned in ways members are already familiar with. Parents are reportedly bracing for phrases like, “The Lord has called you to teach seventh-grade math.”

Early lunch menus are expected to feature Hawaiian haystacks, lion house rolls, and funeral potatoes.

Church officials said the biggest adjustment will be learning that the bishop’s office is now the principal’s office Monday through Friday, and that being sent there somehow feels much worse.
