Utah Man Loses Lottery 27 Times on Road Trip to Teach Kids Gambling Is Bad

EVANSTON, WY — A Utah father of four reportedly bought 27 lottery tickets during a cross-country road trip, failing to win a single one. He insists the experience was “just an object lesson” for his children about the dangers of gambling.

Chad Rickers, who began the streak just over the border in Wyoming, continued buying tickets at nearly every gas station on the way to Tennessee, each time insisting it was purely for educational purposes.

“I told the kids, ‘This is what poor financial choices look like,’” said Rickers, brushing scratch-off residue from his jeans. “It’s hands-on learning.”

His wife says the lesson was not originally part of the itinerary.

“He said he felt inspired to stop at that first Maverik in Evanston,” she said. “Then suddenly we were pulling over every 200 miles for another ‘teaching moment.’”

The children reportedly learned two key things: gambling is bad, and Dad gets unreasonably hopeful near Love’s Travel Stops.
